Royals Crawl Their Way into 3rd Place!

By Tim Pafford

Oh, my!!!  This is it Royals fans.  We have now seen our team crawl thier way into 3rd place in the AL Central.  My, My, after the start of this season, this is one hell of an accomplishment.  Who saw this team rebounding like this after a 12 game loosing streak to open up 2012?  I am the eternal Royals opptimist; and still found myself skeptical that this kind of success could happen after that start.

This is not to say that I am already marching to the ticket office for post-season game tickets just yet.  But I can't say that I wouldn't love to see that happen.  Teams have come back from 11 1/2 games back to win the Penant before, but not in the AL Central.  Verlander and the Tigers will have to go on a loosing steak that would rival the historic break down of the Boston Red Sox last year to give the Royals a fighting chance to overcome their Division Rivals.  (Not to mention the Tribe could come alive for a resurgence too.)

But even with out a Post-Season birth I will certainly be happy with how the end of the 2012 season is progressing.  Most fans and commentators alike complained about the starting rotation and lack of clutch hitting from our Royals when the season opened up.  Both have not found total sollution, but they have found a more consistant level in the recent months.  (Who was watching Jeremy Guthrie flirt with a no-hitter the other day?  Me!)

Seeing the starters going 6+ innings a game consistantly is a very nice to see.  Thus gving the relievers a normal work load has been giving them an opportunity to shine instead of setting them up to fail, or become injured, by overwork.  Plus great bat work has been a beautiful complent to the spectacular glove work the entire team has shown during the 2012 season.

I don't know if this magic will last the rest of the season.   I don't know if the Royals will make it to post-season.  But I do know this is a team putting it together for great and entertaining baseball for the fans of Kansas City.  Let us soak it up while we still can.

Go Royals!!!
