In a world lead by greed and sensationalism Gil Meche proved is to be a man of honor and class. He could have easily taken $12.5 million dollars to the bank and pitched games here and there (from the bullpen as a reliever) to finish out the last season of his contract. Few would have thought badly of him for doing it. He had the backing of the coaching staff and the Royals' management. But instead of taking this road (that had been contracted to him to receive) he walked away from it all. He felt that not being able to fully support him team as a reliable starting pitcher did not warrant a huge salary, and he walked away from every bit of it.
If only the world of big business could take a page out this professional baseball player's book; the financial state of the Western World just may well be a better place to live.
Your class and drive will be missed in Kansas City, Gil Meche. Where every your life takes you, you will be remebered here in Kansas City as a Royal of world class ethics.
