News and How I Stand

By Tim Pafford

What an odd off season it has been. David  DeJesus is now an "A", and Zack and Yunie are now Brewers.  Huh?   Well, that should have been a great shock. But, after all the trading that has been taking place in the Royals, it should not have a shocker to see the teams biggest stat machines move to other teams.
I will to miss Yuniesky the most . He gave me the greatest personal memories of this past season.  He hit the grand-slam to help The Royals win over the Chicago White Sox during game 1 of the double-header against The Sox.   That came about after rain delays the night before. He also autographed my favorite Royals cap from just outside the  Royals dug out.   He helped make me feel like one of the kids that were there to receive the same stroke of the Sharpie as I did.  Thank you, Yuniesky Bentancourt.  If you ever read English writings about yourself, know that this is one fan that was very grateful to have had you in Kansas City in a Royals uniform.
As fans we hope for the best in 2011, we will miss those players who are gone and made the 2010 Royals who they were.  We say good-bye to Willie Bloomquist, Team Best Starting Pitcher Bruce Chen, David DeJesus, Yuniesky Bentancourt, Zack Greinke (who complained about not having run support and moved to the team with the worst team ERA in professional baseball), Brian Bannister, and Jose Guillen as we say hello to Jeff Francoeur, Melky Cabrara, and several other promising prospects.  As we all hope this will be a great chance at rebuilding the team and a future that sees a winning season and team only time will truly tell.
Some All-Starts remain such as Billy Butler (should be), Joakim Soria, and Jason Kendall.  But it is just a matter of time to see if these veterans mesh with the new crop of young talent to return Kansas City baseball to that of the 1980's teams who consistently made it to the play offs under the ownership of Mr. Kauffman.
