Bloomquist Shows His Speed

By Tim  Pafford

If there was a game to watch all year; it was last night's game, where the Royals took on the Texas Rangers.  It took double digits to have enough runs for the Royals to take the win.  But if that was not an impressive enough feat, it was how it came to be that made the game nearly perfect.
All night was a battle of the bats.  Both teams teams were hitting everything a pitcher put in front of them with the lead going back and forth between the teams most of the game.  That was until the 6th, when the score was tied at 9.  Then, a pitching duel between the teams' Bull Pens took place.  Neither team could get an advantage on offense, and the score remained tied.  That was until the bottom of the 9th.
Wilson Betemit hit a walk off double, and team manager Ned Yost put in Willie Bloomquist as a pinch runner. As Alex Gordon was in the batter's box,Willie was able to steal 3rd.  Alex struck out, bringing Bentancourt to the plate.  The Rangers changed to closer Alexi Ogando.  Though the closer had triple digit speed, he was unable to find the strike zone with his hard throwing.  One wild pitch was recovered by the catcher, but the second wild pitch to Bentancourt went to the wall and Willie ran to home plate just before to the ball could be thrown to the pitcher covering home to score the final, and most dramatic, run.
The Royals won with a final score of 10-9 in only their second win against the Rangers this season.
