Friday's game against the Orioles was one of the most beautifully dramatic games in the history of the sport! The Royals were leading up till the 8th inning when the Orioles were able to hit a two run homer and take the lead by one.
The Royals went down in order in the bottom of the eighth. Things looked grim considering the night before's game had the Royals lose for only the third time all year in extra innings. But Blake Wood was able to hold the opponents to to a one run lead.
The Royals were able to get onto base, then a strike out. It looked as if the momentum of getting men on base was going to come to a close. Alex Gordon was on deck and stepped up to the plate. Hit hard, the ball sailed and kept going, kept going, kept going all the way to the Royal's bullpen! Alex Gordon had hit a three run homer to win the game!
His team greeted him at the plate with a group ovation. The team mobbed him and danced around him all while hitting him. (In post-game interview he asked is he had a black eye from the beating.) As I watched, I had tears in my eyes. I was crying to see the Royals not only break the six game losing streak they were on; but also to see David DeJesus's replacement pull through in glorious fashion. Even with, what seems, all the stars leaving for other teams, the Royals may just make the end of 2010 worth watching every last play.
